Belinda Beck is a Professor in the School of Allied Health Sciences and member of the Menzies Health Institute Queensland at Griffith University, Gold Coast campus where she has taught musculoskeletal anatomy and conducted bone research for the past 20 years. Belinda graduated from The University of Queensland with a degree in Human Movement Studies (Education) and from the University of Oregon (Eugene, Oregon, USA) with a Master of Science (Sports Medicine) and a PhD (Exercise Physiology). She completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in the Stanford University School of Medicine (California). Her work, primarily related to the effects of mechanical loading on bone, has involved both animal and human studies, from basic to clinical research. She has been awarded over $3M in research funding, published over 100 scientific papers, and presented almost 200 abstracts at conferences and symposia nationally and internationally. Most recently Belinda, with her Griffith colleagues, published the results of the LIFTMOR and LIFTMOR-M clinical trials which re-established the benchmark of exercise as therapy for osteoporosis and low bone mass. This ground-breaking program has since been rolled out as ONERO in The Bone Clinic and licenced to practitioners around Australia on a mission to prevent osteoporotic fracture.

Dr Beck serves on the Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee of Healthy Bones Australia (formerly Osteoporosis Australia), and the Healthy Bones Australia National Consumer Advisory Committee. She is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Chairs the Research Committee of Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA), and is a long-time member of the Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society, the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, ACTA, ANZMUSC, ANZACA, SMA, AMMA and The Hopkins Centre. Professor Beck’s expertise has been recognised nationally and internationally, including invitations to lead or contribute to the development of translational documents such as exercise guidelines for osteoporosis, position statements and fact sheets for organisations including ESSA, the US National Osteoporosis Foundation, ACSM, and Osteoporosis Australia/ Healthy Bones Australia.
